Ruffy"s
8th birthday party was held Sunday morning, September 12th at Montrose Park
in Georgetown.
About 40 of his doggy pals and an undetermined number of bipeds attended.
Two large cakes from Doggie Style were served. Both the peanut butter cake
and the carob cake were enthusiastically received.
It should be noted that Chase - a golden - stuck his face in the cake several
times. Lucky - a Shep/Chow - jumped up on the picnic table and figured out
how to open the cake box. Lucky also used his talents as a Defensive Back
to intercept several pieces of cake that were intended for other guests.
As Ruffy's best buddy, Lucky seemed to MC the party and used his connections
to get the most cake.
Duke - another golden - had his fill of cake and goodies and reluctantly
left the party when his Mom explained it was time to go. She put him on
a leash. As they were heading out of the park, Duke spied a squirrel and
gave a tug. His Mom let go of the leash and Duke took about three steps
towards the squirrel, and then took off at full speed for the picnic table
and a last piece of cake. Having outsmarted his Mom, he got his just desserts.
After all, a piece of cake in the hand is worth more than a squirrel in
the bush.
Pepper (a Norfolk terrier) and Taika (a miniature wiener dog) generally
don't like doggie treats, according to their parents, but both ate heartily
of the cake.
And Magellan - a tiny Italian greyhound - seemed to wolf down more than
the five pounds or so that he weighs.
Schemp - a full-sized Bernese Mountain Dog - was a model of decorum. He
sat and watched in rapt attention as his human little sister Annie handed
out treats. He did not go hungry, even though he patiently waited his turn.
The party still seems to be the subject of discussion among most of the
Montrose Park Pack.
Both Chase and Ruffy headed directly for the picnic table on their Monday
morning walks, hoping to find a crumb or two in the grass.
And all the dogs thank Doggie Style for the cakes, which were clearly the
hit of a very special day.
